Week in Review: Aetna sues Radiology Partners | Impact of USPSTF guidelines | Gender fraud case

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Happy New Year from all of us at AuntMinnie.com!

In our first Week in Review for 2025, the most highly read story covered a recent lawsuit filed by Aetna against Radiology Partners (RP). The insurance company is alleging that RP defrauded Aetna and its plan sponsors out of tens of millions of dollars. RP strongly disputes Aetna’s allegations, however, and you can get all of the details of the litigation in our report.

Meanwhile, a recent study determined that the incidence of advanced breast cancer did not increase after the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) updated its 2009 breast cancer screening guidelines to recommend that women between the ages of 40 and 49 make individualized decisions in undergoing biennial mammography screening. In 2024, the USPSTF changed its guidelines to recommend routine biennial breast cancer screening beginning at 40.

However, annual breast cancer screening beginning at 40 is the most cost-effective screening model, researchers from Canada have found.

In other articles making the top five in page views this week, a radiologist from Ghana who has allegedly lived in Europe has been granted bail while awaiting trial in a fraud case. And a deep-learning algorithm can help predict breast cancer treatment response on dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI exams.
