Ultrasound vendor Biosound Esaote of Indianapolis has secured a nonexclusive license for patents that cover ultrasound tissue harmonic imaging (THI), the company reported.
Research Corporation Technologies has granted Biosound Esaote the right to access to THI technology, which shows that the second and higher-order harmonic response of native tissue to a propagated ultrasound beam can produce a sharper, higher-contrast image than that of the fundamental emitted frequency.
Other companies that have licensed RCT patents include Siemens Medical Solutions, Philips Healthcare, and GE Healthcare. Tucson-based RCT manages the THI technology patents for its partner, the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY.
