Vascular imaging developer Medical Media Systems (MMS) has purchased the assets of GHRL, a Cambridge, MA-based provider of technology for the 3-D imaging of tumors.
The acquisition enables the West Lebanon, NH-based firm to enter the oncology imaging market as part of its growth strategy, MMS said.
As part of the agreement, MMS will also sponsor a National Cancer Institute-funded clinical study with the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Harvard Medical School affiliated hospitals. The retrospective study, planned to begin this year, will attempt to establish whether the tumor-volume metric is a better indicator of changes in tumor size and growth than the 2-D-based RECIST (Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors) protocol that measures the longest diameters of target lesions, the firm said.
