German industrial conglomerate Siemens reported that it has been given approval by the European Commission to acquire the diagnostics division of Bayer Healthcare without restrictions.
The Munich-based firm received approval for the acquisition from U.S. regulatory agencies in October this year.
The Bayer deal follows the company's purchase of the U.S. firm Diagnostic Products Corporation, which was completed at the end of July. Upon completion of the Bayer acquisition, which Siemens said is expected by early 2007, both companies will be merged and will operate as Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics, a U.S.-based subsidiary and part of Siemens Medical Solutions in Malvern, PA.
