A pair of Sun Nuclear anthropomorphic phantoms will travel aboard NASA's Orion spacecraft as part of an upcoming mission aimed at enabling human exploration to the moon and Mars.
The custom phantoms -- known as Helga and Zohar -- will represent female astronauts and will provide data for future space exploration as part of NASA's upcoming uncrewed Artemis I mission. The phantoms will ride as "passengers" aboard the Orion to assist in measuring potential radiation exposure to astronauts.
Women typically experience greater sensitivity to space radiation, and a stated goal of the Artemis program is to send the first woman astronaut to walk on the surface of the moon, according to Sun Nuclear.
The Orion is scheduled for launch on August 29.
