SBI to promote annual screening for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) is launching a series of initiatives to educate the public on breast cancer screening, reiterating its stance that annual mammography screening should start at age 40.

The SBI in a news release stated that despite evidence, there is still confusion due to conflicting advice from various organizations about the frequency of mammograms.

Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) in October (as well as Health Literacy Month), the society will promote messaging on starting annual mammography at age 40 through its SBI Podcast and the SBI BCAM Resource Page. This includes encouraging annual screening for early detection of cancer, sharing patient stories, data points for patients to have informed conversations, and information on what patients can expect at their first screening.
