Of eight health bills passed by the U.S. House of Representatives as of December 18, the American College of Radiology (ACR) praised the progress of HR 4534, the Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventive Services Act of 2024.
However, there is a Senate companion bill, S 2245, that has not moved out of committee or been voted on, the ACR noted.
HR 4534 would require the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in conjunction with the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs, to conduct interagency review to evaluate and identify opportunities for the acceleration of research on lung cancer in women and underserved populations, greater access to preventive services, and strategic public awareness and education campaigns, according to the ACR.
