Vital Images gets clearance for denoising software

Advanced visualization firm Vital Images has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for image denoising software.

The software is a postprocessing filter used with original image data in conjunction with Vital Image's Vitrea software. The filter, Structure Preserving Diffusion (SPD), improves the appearance of noisy images for CT and x-ray angiography; it can be used with any generation of CT scanner and in conjunction with iterative reconstruction techniques.

Denoising filters are applied for a variety of image reconstruction types, such as multiplanar reformat, curved planar reformat, 3D, and other volumetric views. Denoised images can be stored with the original source images in PACS, Vital said.

The software is also designed to work with existing hardware, and users have the ability to create and save their own denoising filters. It is available in the U.S. in Vitrea version 6.6.3 and in previous Vitrea versions in other countries globally.
