Pneumonia:
Clinical:
In the U.S. pneumonia is the 6th leading cause of death and the number one cause of death from infection [1]. Pneumonia can be community acquired, nosocomial, or opportunistic (in immune compromised patients) [1]. The most common bacterial agents responsible for community acquired pneumonia are Streptococcus pneumoniae, Mycopasma pneumoniae, Chamydia pneumoniae, and Legionella pneumoniae [1]. Community acquired pneumonia can be caused by gram-negative organisms in elderly patients, alcoholics, and patients with underlying cardiopulmonary disease [1]. Interstitial pneumonia is typically caused by viruses or mycoplasma [1].
