Dirofilariasis:
Clinical:
Dirofilaria immitis is the dog heartworm and the infection is transmitted to man by a mosquito. Infected patients are typically asymptomatic. The organism is unable to completely mature in the human host- where it dies and embolizes to the lung. The parasite is usually eccentrically located within a granuloma in a pulmonary artery. The lesion appears as a lung nodule on CXR and it usually removed to exclude a malignancy.
